My Week in a Word – Growth

I am always learning. I am always growing

Something I have always loved about blogging is the fact that I am always learning. I am always growing. So this week I thought I would explore growth and what it means to me.

Are We Old Dogs?

Growth isn’t just something we do as children. Or at least it shouldn’t be in any case! As adults we forget that it can be good for us to learn, to adapt and to evolve. They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks – but completely disagree. We might not learn at the same pace as children, but we can certainly adapt and evolve if we put out minds to it.

This week has been intense on the learning scale for me. I have been working hard to improve my game, in particular my social media game. I have been absorbing every ounce of advice I can lay my hands on. Learning how to use each platform to its full potential. Working on my branding and figuring to how best to portray myself.

If You Build It, They Will Come

Now this is where the clever bit happens. Suddenly, once a certain, pre-determined amount of data has been processed by my brain, a lightbulbs dings above my head and everything makes sense! As if by magic, the information slots into place. This is growth in action.

It’s the best feeling in the world. Knowing that you have put effort into becoming better at something and realising it was all worthwhile.

And then! The most wonderful thing happens. Other people start to see how much effort you have put into your work. This leads to a different type of growth; Followers!

We all like to be told we are doing a good job. There is no feeling like the one you get when your hard work is recognised. Bliss!

A Cycle of Success

I have found throughout my adult life this turns into a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy. If I work hard, I will be rewarded, which in turn will make me want to work harder. The cycle goes round and round. In some areas of growth, there would be a ceiling to how far this could go. The amazing thing about what I do on here though is that there is no ceiling! I can keep learning, adapting and evolving. Whilst there is technological developments, evolving fashions and changes in how we communicate on social media, I will be there to learn how to make the most out of it.

I am always learning, I am always growing

It’s a funny old thing is growth. Most people will roll their eyes at it because it’s so cliche. But we are doing it all the time, whether we like it or not. It’s a part of being a successful human being. The important things is not to grow, but to make sure we are doing so in the direction we want to. By denying it is happening we risk developing our skills and knowledge in an area we couldn’t care less about. This is why I have been focussing my energies on improving my skills in this arena. This is where my passions lie. In order to make my dreams a reality I must channel this growth in the direction I choose.

Keep your fingers crossed it works!
